From the CEO
I am happy to announce a series of leadership changes within Equestrian Victoria’s Board and committees. We have been very lucky to a series of strong leaders but as organisations do, we welcome new changes as they bring new ideas and a fresh perspective.
Firstly, I want to express our gratitude to our outgoing chair, Tim Clarke, whose contributions have been invaluable and will continue to do so in his position as a Board Director. Moving into the EV Chair position will be Kate Wallis. Kate's dedication and leadership will strengthen our organisation as we strive for excellence in all that we do.
Furthermore, I extend my sincere appreciation to outgoing chairs Cindy Morrison (Jumping) and Lizzy Schirmer (Dressage) for their dedication and hard work in advancing their disciplines. As we announce the appointment of Bernie Hearn as the new Chair of Jumping and Pam Buxton-Barber as the new Chair of Dressage. Their expertise and passion for their respective disciplines will undoubtedly drive us to new heights of success.
As we approach our premier Young Horse event, PSI DJWTS, which boasts an ever-growing reputation for excellence, I am grateful for the hard work and dedication that so many within our organisation have put into making this event possible. Yet, as always, there is still more to be done.
If you are eager to be a part of this fantastic event, please volunteer by following this link VOLUNTEER
But our momentum keeps going. No sooner will we have wrapped up DJWTS than we will be diving into the excitement of the ISV State Championships. At Werribee Park from 6th-11th of April, this event will see young competitors from across the state converge for a showcase of talent and determination.
For further details on both events and more, please read on in this newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. We hope to see you at DJWTS - come say "Hi"!
Safe Riding.

WELCOME, ASHLEY!

Since then, he has supported the equine world in many aspects over the years, from sponsoring to event management.

We look forward to working with Ash at Equestrian Victoria!
EQUESTRIAN VICTORIA’S ACCESSIBILITY TOOLKIT
Last year, Equestrian Victoria introduced the members of the DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) Working Group, who have worked in partnership with EV to create an action plan and to advance its respective initiatives to assist us in continuing to ensure we are a diverse and inclusive sporting community.
As a result, Equestrian Victoria with the DEI have released the Accessibility Toolkit that has been adapted from the FEI Accessibility Toolkit, Central Coast Council and Equestrian Australia Guidelines.
This is the first such resource released by Equestrian Victoria with the help of the DEI Working Group. The purpose of the toolkit is to ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided with the necessary means to actively engage in and derive enjoyment from sports events.

YOUNG AMBASSADOR
Applications for Young Ambassador wclosed on 6 March, and we are looking forward to announcing and meeting each of our finalists before the end of the month.
This year, we have some great inclusions prepared for our Young Ambassador finalists, including a Leadership and Team Building activity day in June, the Young Ambassador Weekend in July and multiple opportunities for them to engage with sponsors and partners.
The online application form currently outlines some of the inclusions our future Young Ambassadors can expect.
The programme will offer a lot of guidance and support to those who become finalists and the future Young Ambassador and it will be a great opportunity for those who wish to support and engage further with the equestrian industry.
VALE GRAEME BARKER
Equestrian Victoria is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Graeme Barker. His contributions to the horse industry over more than 40 years were immense and far-reaching, leaving an indelible mark on all who witnessed his work.
Inducted into the Equestrian Victoria Hall of Fame in 2022, Graeme's passion and dedication to the sport were evident in every word he spoke and every event he graced with his presence. As the voice of the biggest events in the country, he brought excitement to jumping classes, shared the rich history of the Garryowen, and made the intricacies of the sport accessible to all.
Beyond his undeniable talent as a commentator, Graeme's commitment to the betterment of the horse, its breeding, and its welfare resonated deeply with all who shared his love for these magnificent creatures. His impact extended beyond the arena, connecting the whole of the equestrian community.
We send our sincerest condolences to Graeme's family and friends.

After six years of dedicated service, Lizzy Schirmer has stepped down from the Dressage Victoria Committee, having reached the maximum length of tenure permitted under the EV Discipline Committee By-Laws. Lizzy spearheaded initiatives such as the Amateur Owner Rider Squads and Development Weekends, Directed the AOR State and National Championships, Directed Dressage and Jumping with the Stars for 3 years and the annual Dressage Festival for the past 4 years. In another significant development, Lone Joergensen, who has served as the Victorian State Coach for Dressage for the past decade, has chosen not to renew her EA Coaching accreditation and will be stepping down from her role as State Coach. Lone's exceptional contributions as an athlete, trainer, and coach have greatly benefited the sport of Dressage both in Australia and internationally. Dressage Victoria extends its heartfelt gratitude to Lone for her dedication and leadership with the High-Performance Squad and other riders. It is important to note that Lone will continue to offer her expertise as a private coach.
These changes mark an exciting new chapter for Dressage Victoria as it continues to evolve and grow under the guidance of its dedicated committee members and coaches.

For members whose horses do not currently possess a bridle number issued by Equestrian Victoria, when acquiring a new dressage license for your horse, please reach out to the office to obtain an assigned number.
If you have purchased a horse from interstate that has an existing bridle number issued from another state branch, you will also need to contact the Equestrian Victoria office to request a new bridle number. This avoids the issue in which two horses end up having the same bridle number.

JUMPING
UPDATES TO THE JUMPING VICTORIA COMMITTEE
After two years of service, Cindy Morrison stepped down as Chair of the Jumping Victoria committee at the last Annual General Meeting.
Cindy is well known on the Victorian Show Jumping scene and has always been heavily involved in the discipline, whether it be competing, organising or volunteering.
We would like to extend our thanks to Cindy for her commitment and contributions to the sport as Chair. Cindy will still hold a position on the committee as Club Representative.
As such, we would like to introduce our newly elected Chair of the Jumping Victoria committee, Bernie Hearn.
Many might know Bernie Hearn as the Mayor of the Rural City of Benalla from November 2021 - 2023. She was first elected in 2016 before her appointment as Deputy Mayor in November 2019.
Bernie represented Council on various committees, including the Benalla Festival Advisory Committee , Accessibility Reference Group and the Audit and Risk Committee.
Outside of her duties as Councillor, Bernie and her family run a warmblood breeding stud that specialises in the development and training of show jumping horses.
We wish her all the best!

TRANS TASMAN CHALLENGE -
NEW ZEALAND
At the end of January, Victorian young riders Jack Barker, Hayden Parker and Elissa Stephens along with Cody Tincknell from Queensland, formed the Australian team that travelled to New Zealand for the Young Rider Trans-Tasman Teams Challenge.
The competition was held at the Larsen Sawmilling Equestrian Championships in Gisborne and riders competed on borrowed horses.
Despite their best efforts, the Kiwi team emerged victorious after three rounds with 14 points.
Congratulations to all riders!
GDP CLASSIC
Hailed as an event by riders, for riders. It’s no wonder the GDP Classic is an extremely popular event and attracts a large number of competitors including some of Australia’s top showjumpers.
The event was run over 4 days in February at Boneo Park, with a prize pool of $60,000. There were many amazing performances but taking top honours in the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix was Sam Overton riding Oaks Cassanova.
Congratulations to riders and to the GDP team for running such a successful event!
